JAMESTOWN, N.C. — Guilford Technical Community College student-athletes J’nai Millner and Jeremiah Phifer were recently honored as Women’s and Men’s Basketball Players of the Year for NJCAA Region X. The awards were announced earlier this month at the conclusion of the regular season.

Sophomore J’nai Millner, a guard for the women’s basketball team, led the conference with an average of 25.4 points per game for the 2018-2019 season.

On the men’s team, sophomore guard Jeremiah Phifer led the conference with an average of 23.9 points per game. Earlier this year, he also earned National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) National Player of the Week honors for his performance. Titans’ guard Chance Prandy was also voted to the Second Team Men’s All-Region Team.

“Region X is well-known for the talent level in all of the sports that we sponsor. For these individuals to be honored as the best against such high-level competition really speaks to the strength of our programs at GTCC and the student-athletes themselves,” said Director of Athletics and Head Men’s Basketball Coach Kirk Chandler.

With Region X Player of the Year titles, both Millner and Phifer will receive nominations to the NJCAA  All-American Team.

GTCC is a member of the NJCAA and competes in Region X. The men’s basketball team finished its regular season with a 24-6 record; the women’s team ended their season with a 13-15 record.
